Protecting the Forests with Drones
Sweden is a sparsely populated country dominated by vast forests. Forestry is vital for the national economy. Sweden provides ten percent of the sawn timber, pulp, and paper traded globally, despite only having one percent of the world's commercial forest areas.
Forests and forestry are also crucial for climate change mitigation regarding biodiversity and binding carbon dioxide. Swedish forests have high productivity rates and low rates of natural disturbances. Protecting forests is vital for humanity, and drones help to document, deliver insights, and protect forests.
Our Crowddroner Fredrik mapped an area close to Örebro, Sweden. He wanted to document this area as a unique, variated forest with leaves and conifers, small hills, and wetlands. To protect this forest, the municipality created a nature conservation area. The area is about 16 Ha and is an important biodiversity player in the Swedish midlands.
